BALDWIN FARMS, INC. – The Baldwin Family

“It’s important for the younger generation to learn about farming. If there’s nobody to hand it off to, then everything just dies out and you don’t have it anymore. Farming teaches them drive, work ethic and responsibility.”

Since Sanderson Farms first expanded its operations to the state of Texas in 1996, the Baldwin family has been growing chickens for the company’s Brazos Production division. Joe Baldwin and his late wife, Junice, built their pullet farm when their youngest son, Jeff, was just in middle school.

Now a second-generation family farmer, Jeff recalls spending a lot of time on the farm helping his parents. “I got involved on the farm by helping my Dad and Mom, and I just took it over from there to keep growing our operation,” said Jeff.

Jeff has been married to his wife, Crystal, for nearly a decade now, and they have one son, Riggin, who dreams of following in his Dad and Grandfather’s footsteps one day by becoming a poultry farmer.

“My youngest son, Jeff, and I run the farm, along with a lot of help from my six-year-old grandson,” said Joe. “My late wife and I started the farm as a second job years ago, before she passed away. Poultry farming has since become the sole income for both myself and Jeff’s family.”

Like father, like son, Jeff sees the importance in passing down his passion for poultry farming to the next generation of the Baldwin family. “It’s important for the younger generation to learn about farming,” said Jeff. “If there’s nobody to hand it off to, then everything just dies out and you don’t have it anymore. Farming teaches them drive, work ethic and responsibility.”

Baldwin Farms, Inc. is a four-house pullet farm located in Caldwell, Texas, and it has been proudly owned by the Baldwin Family for over 24 years now. In addition to poultry farming, the Baldwins also raise show cattle.

Jed Haby, pullet flock supervisor for Sanderson Farms, commends the Baldwin family on their hard work and dedication to the company. “Joe Baldwin has been the mainstay of the farm since its inception and has taught his son, Jeff, the business as he has grown up,” said Haby. “It has been a pleasure working with both Joe and Jeff in raising the best pullets possible.”
