Trainee Programs

One of the best ways to join the Sanderson Farms family is to become a Trainee in one of our many Corporate Trainee Programs. These programs are designed to help employees build a hands-on working knowledge of Sanderson Farms’ overall operations while training to become a part of our management team.

  • Offers trainees the opportunity of development, training and supervising experiences at all levels of the organization, from breeder/hatchery operations to slaughter operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Must be mobile and willing to relocate.
  • Trainee works in one of the Processing or Production facilities.
  • Trainee will work closely with Supervisors and Managers, learn management skills and gain knowledge about the poultry industry and Sanderson Farms.
  • This is an entry level position for the trainee to gain the skills and knowledge they need to become Supervisors and above in our facilities.
  • The Trainee reports to the Division Manager where Trainees are assigned.
  • The needs of the company will determine where Trainees are assigned.
  • Trainees are required to work where and when needed.

The Accounting Trainee will work in all accounting areas of our business, including processing, production, prepared foods, accounts payable, accounts receivable, tax and audit. The Accounting Trainee will train for and perform the duties of corporate accounting personnel, including, but not limited to, accounts payable, credits, auditor and controller. Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • The Accounting Trainee will work in all accounting areas of our business.
  • Trainees must be mobile and willing to relocate.

This program is designed to teach trainees the skills and knowledge necessary to fulfill the role of an Auditor or another position within the Audit Department. The Audit Accounting Trainee will work closely with the Senior Staff Auditor and Chief Auditor to learn all areas of our business accounting procedures, including corporate, processing and production accounting functions. The Audit Accounting Trainee will train for and perform duties of corporate accounting personnel, including, but not limited to, accounts payable, credits, cashier, auditor and controller. Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Audit Accounting Trainees will work out of the corporate office in Laurel, Mississippi.

The Communications Trainee will work in all areas of our business, including processing, production and communication. The Communications Trainee will train for and perform duties of communications personnel, including, but not limited to, Corporate Translator, Training Manager and Corporate Recruiter. Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, communications, public relations, marketing or a related field.
  • Must be mobile and willing to relocate.

The Field Employee Relations Trainee program offers trainees the opportunity to develop managerial and leadership skills while becoming knowledgeable about the poultry industry, Sanderson Farms, Inc., and its various divisions and personnel positions. The program allows trainees to learn and perform duties of Field Employee Relations Department at processing, production and prepared foods. Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Personnel Trainees will work out of the corporate office in Laurel, Mississippi.
  • Trainees must be mobile and willing to relocate.

The Maintenance Trainee will work in all areas of Sanderson Farms’ processing plants. The Maintenance Trainee will train for and perform duties of division maintenance personnel, including, but not limited to, Maintenance Supervisor, Cleanup Supervisor and Maintenance Superintendent. Position Requirements:

  • 2-year associate degree in a technical field.
  • Trainee works in one of the processing facilities..

The Management Information Systems Trainee will work in all areas of our business and management information systems, including processing, production, computer operations, help desk, programming and database administration. The Management Information Systems Trainee will train for and perform duties of information services personnel, including, but not limited to, computer operations, programming, database maintenance, networking, help desk and computer maintenance. Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering technology, business MIS or a computer-related field.
  • Trainees must be mobile and willing to relocate.

The Organization Development Trainee will work in all areas of our organization, including processing, production and training. The Organization Development Trainee will train for and perform duties of corporate training personnel, including, but not limited to, Training Coordinator, Training Manager, Recruiting Manager and Corporate Recruiter. Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, psychology, business, public relations or a related field.
  • Must be mobile and willing to relocate.

The Recruiting Trainee will work in all areas of our business, including processing, production and recruiting. The Recruiting Trainee will work closely with the Manager of Corporate Recruitment, the Corporate Recruiter and the Recruiting Coordinator, as well as developing relationships with college faculty and students. Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, communications, public relations, marketing or a related field.
  • Must be mobile and willing to relocate.

The Risk Management Trainee will work in all areas of our business, including processing, production, prepared foods, risk management, safety and human resources. The Risk Management Trainee will train for and perform duties of corporate risk management personnel, including, but not limited to, Claims Supervisor and Risk Manager.

  • Bachelor’s degree in risk management, insurance or paralegal studies.
  • Trainees must be mobile and willing to relocate.

The Sales Trainee will work in all areas of our business, including processing, production, customer service and the Corporate Sales Department. The Sales Trainee will work closely with and build and maintain effective working relationships with division managers, customer service managers and the Corporate Sales Department. Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, sales, marketing or a related field.
  • Trainees must be mobile and willing to relocate.

The Shop Trainee will be trained in the safe, efficient diagnosis and repair of all vehicles used by Sanderson Farms. Training will include general shop skills, preventative maintenance, recordkeeping, loader repairs, hydraulics, feed trailer repairs and preparation for a Commercial Driver’s License. The Shop Trainee will train for and perform duties of division fleet maintenance personnel, including, but not limited to, Shop Maintenance Supervisor and Shop Clerk. Position Requirements:

  • 2-year associate’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
  • Trainee works in one of Sanderson Farms’ production facilities in the Truck Shop.
  • Trainees must be mobile and willing to relocate.

The Poultry Science Trainee program offers trainees the opportunity to develop skills needed to perform supervisory duties at production and anywhere needed within the company, including but not limited to flock, hatchery and feedmill. Position Requirements:

Primary Functions:

  • Performs supervisory duties at production and anywhere needed within the company.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performs supervisory role as assigned in accordance with assigned position’s current job description and functions
  • Flock
  • Supervises contract pullet, breeder or broiler growers in accordance with company grower contract
  • Checks progress on each assigned flock and makes timely corrections as good poultry husbandry suggest
  • Monitors flock health and administers medications and vaccines prescribed by the Corporate Veterinarian
  • Responsible for proper operation of company assigned vehicle as outlined in the company’s policies, rules and procedures
  • Hatchery
  • Supervises and coordinates the maintenance, clean-up and sanitation of the hatchery building and equipment, hatching process, chick delivery, egg handling and sets, record keeping and hatchery personnel
  • Prepares work schedule, sets priorities and assigns tasks, supervises and coordinates work of maintenance, security, transfer and clean-up personnel, egg and chick drivers and hatching personnel.
  • Controls cost of labor and approves time cards
  • Conducts necessary hatchery training and safety meetings
  • Feedmill
  • Supervises the delivery and pick-up of feed orders to and from poultry farms as well as controls cost of labor and equipment used in efficiently delivering feed
  • Directs and applies an effective safety program that includes monthly inspections and safety meetings
  • Supervises the unloading process to ensure all incoming ingredients are of the expected quality and are properly unloaded into bins
  • Approves time cards

Position Requirements: Academic: High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience: Three years management experience

Primary Functions:

  • To develop managerial and leadership skills while becoming knowledgeable about the poultry industry, Sanderson Farms, Inc., and its various divisions and positions relative to quality control, i.e.: Quality Control, Laboratory, Feed Mill, poultry health monitoring, auditing, and all Quality Control Programs within the Processing facility.
  • Training for and performing duties of quality control personnel related to processing including, but not limited to, quality control, HACCP, regulatory compliance and animal welfare.
  • Training for and performing duties of quality control personnel related to Production including, but not limited to, animal welfare, poultry health monitoring, and regulatory compliance.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Developing effective management and leadership skills necessary to perform quality control functions.
  • Become proficient in the company’s methods of operation and familiar with the goals and policies of the company and the divisions and their interrelationship.
  • Perform position duties as assigned to maintain maximum efficiency in the quality control departments, and do so in accordance with current position descriptions for those jobs/duties.
  • Perform those specific special assignments as may be required in an accurate and timely manner.

Position Requirements:

  • Academic: Bachelors of Science or Masters of Science

The Technical Services Trainee will work in all areas of our business, including processing, production, microbiology, chemistry, quality control auditing and technical services. The Technical Services Trainee will train for and perform duties of technical services personnel relating to processing, production and the laboratory, including, but not limited to, microbiology, chemistry, quality control, regulatory compliance, animal welfare and poultry health monitoring.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in biology, chemistry, physics or a related scientific background.
  • Trainees must be mobile and willing to relocate.

The Advanced Trainee Program offers trainees the opportunity for advanced development, training and supervisory experiences at advanced levels within the company, including breeder and hatchery operations, processing operations and various other levels of management. Primary Functions:

  • Training for and performing duties at processing, production, or prepared foods at a superintendent level.
