Sanderson Farms Begins Hiring at New Poultry Complex in Tyler, Texas

LAUREL, Miss. – July 11, 2018 – Sanderson Farms is seeking to hire over 1,400 hourly team members for its newest poultry complex that is currently under construction in Tyler, Texas with initial operations expected to begin in early 2019. As the third largest poultry producer in the nation with operations spanning five states and 16 different communities, Sanderson Farms is a growing company with opportunities for employee advancement.

For those interested in pursuing hourly employment with the Fortune 1000 company, Sanderson Farms is hosting “Sanderson Way Career Interest Sessions” on Tuesday, July 17; Wednesday, July 18; and Thursday, July 19 at the Skills Training Center on Tyler Junior College’s West Campus. Career interest sessions will begin at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. each day, and job seekers can attend any one of the nine session times offered throughout the three-day period to learn more about the various career opportunities available with the company. Each session will last approximately three hours and will include a presentation highlighting key employment information such as pay rates, employment benefits, job responsibilities and pre-employment screening requirements.

As a leader within the poultry industry with respect to employee compensation, Sanderson Farms’ team members are offered an outstanding pay and benefits package. Entry-level hourly employees begin earning $12.20 or more per hour, with wages varying according to shift time. Along with a competitive starting wage, employees who have been with Sanderson Farms for three months or longer are eligible for wage increases based on their tenure with the company. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Sanderson Farms line-operators earn more than teacher assistants, nurse assistants, bank tellers and security guards.

In addition to outstanding pay, Sanderson Farms offers a competitive benefits package that includes comprehensive and affordable health care plans including medical coverage for individuals and families, free preventative care screenings, low deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums, as well as $15 copays for generic prescriptions. Sanderson Farms pays 75 percent of the cost of employee health premiums while employees pay the remaining 25 percent as their premium.

Sanderson Farms’ benefits package also includes a 401(k) Plan and Employee Stock Ownership Plan. Employees are eligible to participate in the 401(k) plan after only 90 days of employment. After the first year of employment, contributions to the 401(k) plan are matched dollar-for-dollar by the company on the first three percent of pay, and 50 cents on the dollar for the next two percent of pay.

At no cost to the employee, Sanderson Farms also contributes to the Employee Stock Ownership Plan when approved by its Board of Directors. For fiscal year 2017, Sanderson Farms’ Board of Directors authorized an $18 million contribution to the plan.

In addition to eight paid holidays, employees are eligible to earn up to 20 days of paid vacation time based on employee tenure. Sanderson Farms employees are also eligible for continuing education programs such as reimbursement for college tuition and high school equivalency exams after only one year of employment with the company.
